smogging an obd1 b16b in a 97 hatch in So Cal NEED HELP PLEASE!!!
Hey guys i bought my car from Ben (inep01 on the board here) a couple months ago. it has a b16b in it and i need to get it smogged. the problem is that as we all know obd2 cars cant have obd1 motors and my motor is a b16b so that presents a problem itself. i know that if i put it on the rollers it will pass but the visual and the fact that its obd1 will make me fail immediately. is there any way i can get around this? maybe put an Si ecu in my car for the day? but even then wont i fail the visual? if there ANYTHING i can do to smog the car? i dont mind paying a couple extra bucks to get it to pass if you know what i mean. reply here or if you feel better shooting me a PM it would be much appreciated. thanks.
Read my posts in this thread, i think it will help u GREATLY!!

U dont know what ur talkin about B16B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
U wouldnt have the 02 sensors, or the intake sensor b/ AN OBD1 CAR DOESNT HAVE THEM!!!! Im assuming b/ u have a conversion harness, ur interior wiring is obd2 n the shop didnt want to completely redo the cars wiring. U need s obd2 ecu along w/ a obd2 engine conversion. Some ppl say its not worth it... i have it on my car a 2000 civic ex w/ a obd2 converted b16sirII(obd1 jdm). There were a few sensors that were needed. So I used my d series engine harness(obd2) so the wiring was there. Then I swapped some needed obd2 sernsors, obd2 oil pump w/ the gear. Im runnin the 99-00 civic si ecu. No cel light, its now a legit obd2 car.

Relaxing, I wish, sick as hell and still at work.
I myself would just swap the stocker in and pass, thats why I suggested it, doesnt make it a NOOB suggestion, just what I would do.
I love to pull apart my car so, ehhh.

Mostly people would want a legit legal enigne in their car at all times incase they get pulled over ect. Its fine to pull the engine to swap in ur oem one to pass, but what if u got pulled over n they popped the hood?? Then ur fucked...

True, but his question was to get passed smog, not make it legal, and a B16B will never be legal in Cali no matter what he does.

yes but no1 will know its a b16b if they go to inspect it n it registers as a obd2 then he should be fine as long as he passes emis

You are driving me crazy here.
I live in Cali, it takes more than just smogging it to make it legal. To make it perfectly legal he has to take it to a REF station have it checked and get a sticker thats says the motor is ok to be in that car.
They WILL know its a JDM motor, therefore they will not pass it, therefore it would not be legal.
A B16B will NEVER be legal in Cali.
The skirt around would be to use a USDM block and transfer his internals over, then if it passes the sniffer he may get it legalized.

ahhh, so they actually look up the code to see if it matches the chassis. That sux, i figured if they saw the sensors, plugged in the ecu n it read obd2, n passed smog he would be stright
