Default question: attaching shoulder harnesses to rollbar...

when I installed my bar, in flipped the large harness cleat/bracket (whatever you call it) so the excess belt would hang down instead of rest on the main part. Is there any reason not to do this? It seems kosher, but maybe there's a reason they were shipped "face up"

No worries. Just make sure that the slider won't become stuck cutting into the harness when you need it. Better for the loop around the bar to be just a little 'loose'. That way when you get back into the car the slider won't bind. Pretty hard to see it with your helmet on in the seat.
Another thing you can do is roll the loose end up & then zip tie it to the slider.
