When I go over bumps I get this wierd clank sound...usually if the bump is very abrupt..rolling bumps it doesnt make any noise. I also get a noise when I tap the brakes hard and come off quickly . Thats more of a deep squeek combined with a clank sound...ahhaa. i think they are related.

as far as I know everything is tightened down.....ball joints? its an EM1 Si with 85k miles on it.

It may be your axles, they could be broken.

 

my car does pretty much the same ****. im about to change the axle, i'll let you know if it goes away.

 

You may want to take a look at the ball joints. I had the clunking a year ago and it turned out to be a lower ball joint. The noise started again and it was the upper ball joint (got that fixed yesterday).

 

Check the swaybar bushings.

 

I had the same type of thing, replaced the lower and upper balljoints and the problem went away. If you end up needing to replace the upper balljoints, you might try and find someone with a set of used upper control arms for cheap with low miles with good balljoints still in them. That's what I ended up doing, because the balljoint isn't separate from the upper control arm. You have to buy the whole arm new from Honda, which is ~$130 per side.

It could be your axles, you can check and see if any of the boots are ripped or leaking grease, but usually you will hear clicking when you turn if the axles are bad (CV Joints).

 

dude, my car was doing the same thing, everytime i went over a bump or uneven road i heard this metallic clacking. i checked everything, and it was all good, but then i noticed my that the nut on the top my drivers side shock was not screwed down as far as the one on the passenger side. i tightened it down all the way, and the noise dissappeared! hope this helps

 

could be a broken tie rod.

Its not the axles thats for sure. and Im 99% positive its not a loose bolt.

 

Did you check the balljoints?

 

I have this problem also but its comes from the back passenger side of my car.

And it started happening right after I lowered my Ground Control coilovers about an inch all the way around.

There has been a technical service bulletin from Honda about this. Turns out it's the trailing arm bushing. It's a bitch to replace yourself, but if your car is out of warranty Honda is unlikely to replace it. Lots of people have that same problem, including me.

 

sounds like ball joint to me. park the car, get out and yank on the wheel at the top (12 o;clock) and see if u hear anything. if u dont jack the car up and try to wiggle it everyway u can to see if u hear any clunking. if u do its a good sign its a ball joint

if u have play or hear the sound when u grab the wheel at 9 and 3 that could be a tierod end/s

and check ur swaybar end links too, jsut look at teh bushings and if they are wore, u will get a clunk there too on bumps.
