vis hood
hey guys i just got a new vis c/f hood and i was wondering if you guys think i need hood pins and how to get the winsheild washers to fit in the whole. also some people told me to get it clear coated? what do you guys think i should do?
carbon fiber and hood pins are the best thing you could ever put together.
what do the holes for the washers look like?? they just round??
with stock washers, take a small file or nail file and slowly and carefully make the squared edges on the 2 ends

VIS is already clear coated
Washer holes should be there too (if not its not hard to make new ones - I do recommend a dremel w/ grinder bit rather than drill)
Be smart - use hood pins (evolution is made to weed the stupid)

I hate hood pins, but it would be worse for my hood to fly up..
Does your hood vibrate and shake at high speeds on the freeway? Mine doesnt thats why I havent done it..

i would recommend that too and small files for that little bit more along with either a professional install or alot of time to measure and be precise rather than "oops"

Installing pins is not difficult. It just takes time.
Here is my how-to
http://www.hstuners.com/forums...22931
The reason a dremel w/ grinder bit is better, than a drill, is because you have a TON of control. There is almost zero pressure with it and you can remove large amounts of material or a small amount just as easily.
If you tape the entire area beforehand, with painters tape, there is no splintering or cracking (cannot say the same w/ a drill)
Edit*** You know, you can say they look stupid...or you can say they save lives, cars, and humility. You put cotter pins on your ball joints, so why not a pin on your lightweight hood?

errr, I don't have a couple of those cotter pins for my ball joints. I should probly do something about that...
But I am pretty sure that VIS hoods come clear coated. I don't really care for hood pins myself but I have also witnessed what a carbon fiber hood can do if some air get underniegth it at speeds. So I would also recomend some sort of pins to keep it locked down. I personally like the hood locks as well, yah pins will hold it down but they won't lock it down...

obviously not but you can see the **** if you look up a bit, My hood vibrates more at idle than anything else. thats About it...
Plus having it for 3 years at many rates of speed with no issues tells me enough. No pins = no problems for me..

Hood locks are designed for security, not safety. Having purchased a set I came to that realization.
Under constant barrage of air pressure, I would be concerned that they may work their way loose and fail. Now, I know that anyone on here, that owns them, is going to say "Thats never happened to me"...but its still something that I would be wary of. Even when they are installed with a tight fit, there is play.
Pins, on the other hand, are desined not to come loose (especially if theyre installed with a bit of tension from the hood pressing on them, rather than with slack).
There is ALWAYS going to be people that say "you dont need them" and there will ALWAYS be those that say "dont be a fool...use them". Some use condoms and some get std's. Seriously, even if a chick tells me "Im clean" Id wrap that **** up.
