considering carbon fiber hood, need some advice.
and yes i did a search, spent over and hour looking through the archives.
anyways, which hoods are good? which hood requires hood pins, which recommends, and which dont need them. i would like to get one that does not require me to have hood pins cause i think i'll look rice on my 4 door. jus my opinion, i rather not have them. any help will do.
thanks

I have a VIS Hood...probably the best looking...but definitely not the lightest. No hood pins and no problems. I dont like some of the other CF Hoods because the edges look cut. The edges of the VIS wrap around to the underside of the hood making them look rounded and smooth. It has a nice clear coat on it and looks very good, perfect fit. It also has the holes to put on the rubber trim at the front of the hood. I would definitely put the ruber trim back as it will keep less air from getting under the hood and creating lift. This is probably why some of the hoods fly open while going down the highway. I was able to get plastic snaps at my local hardware store and just pop the trim back on.
Do you want the lightest? or the best looking? ::

FI hoods are excellent if you don't mind the cut edges. They are on the lighter weight side though.
And really I'd pin any hood other than an oem steel hood. That is just for my piece of mind.

VIS hood and love it. I pinned it though because im kinda weary about it coming up. I think the pins are really stylish. VIS is good quality for the money. Thats my $.02

"considering carbon fiber hood"
Considering for what? A performance mod or just for looks.
For looks, make sure the manufacturer rolls the edges (like VIS)
For performance, for the weight difference, your money is probably better spent elsewhere.
my .02$

Takes care of that pretty dang good.
Oh, and for those of you that have the VIS hood, does the hood have a REAL CLEARCOAT? Or is it just the standard gel finish people try to play off as an actual clear coat?

Re: considering carbon fiber hood, need some advice.
im considering buying one because someone rolled on my hood and its wrinkled. he's paying of course. i want to get a CF hood because my weak *** engine has too much weight to pull. the car is not stock and i want to loose some weight so i can turn a bit faster. im more into handling than straightway speed. i jus want to shave some weight off so my weak *** engine wont have to struggle as much.
