the things I've always heard is that going from conventional to synthetic at a higher mileage is that synthetic is much slicker and if the seals are worn even slightly the car may develop an oil leak. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it wont. I would recommend trying and see if it leaks as far as any other concerns I don't see any or haven't heard of any

Yeah, any oil loss (burning or otherwise) will be pronounced with a 5w30 Mobil1 or the like.

I don't think there's any harm at all if you switch. If you don't like it switch back.

I'm a little over 90k, but I went from synthetic to conventional. I still burn just as much, despite what others have said. Oh well, for 1/3 of the price, I'll just keep using conventional.

i recently switched to Valvoline VR1 SAE 50wt Racing oil. I no longer burn any oil, even after spinning it to 9k. no loss in power either. still dynoing 172.

i pay like 2.59 a quart i think. it's pretty cheap. well, more expensive than other dino oils, but still cheaper than synthetic.

only downside to it, since it is a single weight oil, start up protection isn't as good. and i wouldn't recommend running it in the winter, especially up north. but as a summer weight oil, it rox!

it's the only motor oil i run in all the hand built race motors i build.
