Default Noise when clutch pedal is up??? SEARCHED

Thought I would ask around to check this out. Ive searched and it doesnt SEEM it is the input shaft bearing or throw-out bearing, because it didnt do this until i swapped it to my new motor. When the clutch pedal is up, there is a kind of constant 'whooshing' noise coming fromt he engine bay (presumably tranny of course) and it disappears when pedal is all thew way down. I have a stock flywheel and solid mounts so its not a vibration. Anyone have this problem or have any ideas?

No, not at all. Actually sounds like air, like a vacuum (not the kind you use for carpets), not too loud but very noticeable. Hard to explain.

Same thing with my tranny when the clutch is out there like this wooshing sound like u were saying. Seems to be geeting progresively worse. My mechanic told me it was input-shaft bearing and another guy told me it was the release bearing. So I dunno. Transmission labor cost to much for me right now.

My tranny makes the same noise when the pedal is up, like a whirring noise.

I just replaced my clutch and flywheel last week plus a new OEM throwout bearing. OEM fluid too.

still makes the noise.

Im guessing a input shaft bearing , and im looking for a decent low mileage replacment trans. I dont know enough about trannys to take it apart to replace that bearing.

Yeah, throw-out bearing has only ~150 miles on it and tranny was rebuilt...odd.

Did you notice the noise at the same time? There's all kinds of normal noises that get transmitted thru solid mounts where stock mounts stop the noise.

Well, theyre not solid, but filled with 3M 5200, so I guess pretty close to it. I didnt notice the noise really right after the mounts, but this is with a different engine so Ive been paying closer attention to stuff to make sure it runs alright. I dont think it can just be engine noise, because it only makes it when the car is in neutral with clutch pedal up?

Bearings spinning with no loads on the shaft can make a whirring noise that isn't transmitted by the soft stock engine mounts.

Wow, really? You think thats what it may be? Because like I said everything is basically new, and it does sound like a whooshing/whirling noise but not harsh like metal grinding or anything.

Stopping noise & vibration is the reason why stock mounts are so soft.

My cars do the same thing. And it neither gets worse with time nor creates any problems. Remember that ALL moving parts make some kind of noise. But as long is it is just a soft 'whooshing' noise and not a grind or screech, you are okay. By the way, if the clutch is out, the release bearing probably isn't even spinning.

There's a spring inside the slave cylinder, which holds the release bearing up against the PP. It's only light pressure, but probably enough that the release bearing is spinning.

I'm not sure about hydraulic transmission. But on cable transmissions, there is a spring that holds the release bearing AWAY from the pressure plate.
