stock 2000 itr 48k miles
thanks for the help!

So is it the axlel? Fat bastard said he replaced his axle and still had the same problem.
Oh this is my front drivers side wheel not the passenger, but that shouldn't make a difference.
Thanks

After doing some searching I found a post that said the problem was the driveshaft support bearing? Do I have to go the dealership to fix this? Anybody have a part number for the bearing? Does the bearing have to be pressed? I havn't looked unde rthe car yet to see how difficult this is going to be.
I've heard the same noise on my car everytime I'm backing out and in first gear. I'm changing out the axles this weekend, so I'll see if the noise goes away. Hopefully, that's all it is

I had that noise last year and after a little while I decided to take a look at what could be causing the noise...My friend took the drivers wheel off and took the dimple out of the axel nut...He hit it twice with the air gun and it fell off inside the socket of the air gun....You could actually see a little piece of rough metal where the air gun sheered and finished it off....It was about a cm in diameter....check those axels....I got mine fixed under warranty...good luck.....
edit...wow I found the old pics...

Could be motor mounts too. I know it only happens when moving, but your engine really bucks around when hitting the gas and stuff.
Can you make it happen standing still, with the e-brake on, and slipping the clutch a little? If so-- someone brave might stick their ear near your wheel/engine/etc and listen for it.

i dont have an ITR but i had the same problem in my hatchie...i started grabbing anything that could potentially be "loose" and shook the hell out of it..turned out my passenger side spindle wasnt fastened all the way at the top where it connects to the upper control arm? that A thing that the skunk 2 camber kit replaces...i just took out the cotter pin and tightened that bolt as much as i could and it went away...there was just play because the bolt was loose

The intermediate shaft bearing has to be pressed in. I did mine last summer. I don't think it would be the actual bearing tho. I think that if it had enough play to click that loudly, it would produce a wobble/shake under acceleration as well.
Look at the carrier housing for the intermediate shaft that uses three dowel bolts to mount it to the intake side of the block. It may be loose and smacking around.

Axle nut was fine. I checked the top castle nut and it was slightly loose but not really. I tightened it and the noise is still there and still just as much. I shook the axel where the driveshaft support bearing is. It seemed loose but Im not sure if it should or shouldn;t feel loose? It didn't click or pop when I moved it. Any other Ideas? I checked the bottom castle and it was fine.
Under a centimeter of intermediate shaft play is ok, and about a centimeter or two of axle play where it mates to the intermediate shaft is ok too.
Everything sounds like it's in order with the castle nuts and int shaft.
Maybe it's a spring or shock issue.

Im really suprised know one really knows what it is. Seems like a lot of people are having this issue. Next weekend I will just tear down the whole supension etc. And put it back together. Hopefully that will fix it.
Ya know, maybe it's a swaybar endlink. I had a problem with that a long time ago with a rusted/binding endlink, but it liked to make popping noises only when I took right-hand turns.
i had the exact same problem...took it to 3 mechanics and they said ball joint, motor mount, and drive shaft...seems like drive shaft was the closest guess b/c while i was in the car he was constantly putting his body weight on the driver side front wheel then taking it off and from that you could hear the clicking sound...it drove me fuking crazy but the funny thing was it went away after a while...this was however a bit after the mechanic told me he had put lube on the drive shaft...right after he put it there was still the sound but less of it...hope this helps man
Crazy timing on this thread!
Last night i heard the exact same sounds, but on the front passenger side.
Earlier today I went down to my local Honda dealership, and asked one of the mechanics if he could come with me for a small ride to hear the sound. Ofcourse the sound didnt appear at that moment, but when I told him the sound only appeared when i applyed gas in 1th gear and reverse back & forward, he felt pretty sure it was my motor mounts.
I haven`t had the time to check it yet, but ill reply here if i get any smarter after its done.
Eirik.

Hopefully it's just the motor mounts. My axle replacement got pushed to later on toady, so I'll have updates then. Meanwhile, the clicking is getting louder by day and it's driving me CRAZY!
maybe I missed it, but are you guys using stock axles or aftermarket? Ive run some shitty axles in the past which always develop "play" and it tends to make a clunking noise, especially when the steering wheel is close to full lock. I put my stock axle back in and the noise is gone.
many times these clunking noises can be suspension related as well. check all tower bars, sway bars, suspension nuts and bolts for tightness or wear.
could it possibly be something in the steering system as well?

citrus im not sure where he lubed it...i remember this problem had me reading alot on the local toronto forums and now i remember people telling me you can try examining the stabilizer bars and someone saying how their plastic fender liner kept getting nudged by the wheel which made the sound...hope this helps man
