Intake shootout
Searched a lot but nothing came very conclusive for me.
How do you guys like the AEM v2 or the Comptech Icebox. I know CAI makes the most power but I just want some input from the guys that run these intakes.
Thanks

I have a stock Type S rear sway for sale if your still lookin for one iROCK...</TD></TR></TABLE>
thanks for the input, but that's not what i'm looking for as you can see by my original thread. Rains too much in FL for CAI.

I'm pretty happy with the icebox so far. Decent fitment, nothing to move around, somewhat easy install, etc.
Power is definitely better than the oem airbox, that's for sure.

you didn't have to remove your bumper to install the icebox, did you?

I hydroplaned my car into a ditch with about a foot of water and 6" of mud. It ripped off the front bumper and the car stalled out. I pulled the filter and had water standing in the plumbing of the CAI. After pulling the plugs and replacing them, and and tryin to crank it a few times it finally stayed on. Now am I lucky or what? I just dont think hydrolocking is as common as people think....
But if its totally out of the question I would do V2.

yeah, you are pretty lucky. everything is still running smooth?
it's funny, for every story i hear about hydrolocking, i hear 100 stories of people that are fine. i think it's just the fact of possibly ruining a huge investment with a little $200 part that gets people so scared.

Yep, it is the fact that a CAI runs a huge risk for an expensive investment. Especially, because I'm still a student and don't have the time or the funds to replace an engine whenever it decides to flood on my street.
But thanks for the input again.

I'd personally go with the Injen. Thats the next mod for my ep3. I could pick either of the 3 and have a good deal but from what i have read here and ephatch, kseries etc Injen seems to make the better unit.
In case your interested.

i have the injen CAI and it is great, i got it used for 100$ and it works fine and the gains are pretty good all over the chart. it also sounds better that most intakes in my oppinion. all though there isn't much of a difference, CAI sound alot better than short rams. INJEN
My friend drives a 2004 rsx type s and his parents payed for it so they dont want him making any upgrades, but he just found an AEM cold air on ebay and he bid on it. what do you know besides better gas mileage that he can tell his parents that they would agree to let him have it on his car?

lol. Better gas mileage. I think it's almost impossible to get better gas mileage with a cold air intake. Why? Because you always want to hear the damn thing. Maybe only trip driving when I did nothing but highway did I get better mileage, but around town 300 miles to a tank was hard to do without flooring it a lot to hear it.

Car breathes better, just don't gun it all the time and you won't lose gas mileage. But your friend will have a hard time explaining to his parents if his engine seizes up via hydrolock. Please don't hijack my thread next time. This is an intake comparison, not "how to find ways to help my friend get a cold air intake."
I am aware of the Injen CAI yielding very good results. But in FL, there are many streets that are prone to flooding and I do not want to risk it, like I stated before in my above posts.

i hear the the v2 is loud, and the ice box is fairly quiet, but still a change in tone from stock.
im not too sure which SRI style or box would give you more power, especially during heatsoak. sorry couldn't help so much.

Where in FL do you live? I live in Jacksonville and my friend lives in Orlando. We've had cold air intakes for years and never had any problems. As long as you pay extra attention when it is raining you should be fine.
