Default blown headgasket

ok, 1 year ago i popped the hood and coolant was running out of the headgasket under the distributor of my d15bvtec. it just did this once and ever since i never saw any signs of coolant dripping. the car smokes a little too but runs just fine. planning on using a y8 metal gasket and shaving the head . any explanations for this ?

You need to chill out dude...

1) What color is the smoke (white/blue/black).

2) How often and how much coolant do you ever have to add (if any).

3) Did you ever notice the temperature gauge going up past the 3/4 mark?

These questions will tell you if and/or how you blew the gasket.

Usually gaskets blow from the combustion chamber and dont leak outside the block and smoke at the same time.

Sounds more to me like your coolant hose under the dist may have dripped a little.

Let us know,
Vince

you come on here asking people for help, you only give us a pretty short description, and then when someone asks some questions, you get pretty shitty with them. he was asking pretty important questions to rule out some of the problems you might have. next time you want to get smart with someone, go ask a tech at your local autoparts store. thank you.

Sounds to me like your hose may be bad. If your head was so badly damaged that it was leaking coolant out of the engine I doubt the car would run.

Check and replace your hose first.

I'm guessing the smoking he's talking about is a totally different issue...maybe he's running rich or has worn rings/valve seals/pcv valve etc, etc.
