Default cometic headgasket blown

so... the last couple of days ive been noticing coolant in my gsr goin away,....
so i filled it up.. (with my yellow coolant filler upper)... .. the t-stat opened... .. let fans run 2x.... .. saw bubbles comin from the ... filler??
looked at the temp gauge- sitting normal....smelt coolant... shut car off... coolant bubbled in rad... started it... coolant EVERYWHERE.. ahahha what do i see now?
cars idle drops to like 400... white smoke out tailpipe... and that was it
popped the plugs out
cyl 1-3 1/4" of coolant in it... pistons white washed...
long story long... ordered a new ehadgasket from golden eagle...
even better: tghis weekend= coldest part of the year .. in the 0's to teens GREAT

which cometic head gasket was it? I have used both and found their standard MLS head gasket works better than the fire ring gasket

your not the only one Geoff the MLS vs the HP gasket the MLS works 100 times better in my opinion the HP gasket does work nicely with stock sleeves but with aftermarket i dont really consider using the HP gasket with fire rings

I had issue's with Cometic Hi boost headgasket, but that had to do with my Darton sleeves and and the design of the cometic headgasket (at least thats what I was told) just didn't seal properly.

Question where any of your spark plugs really white?

Also, where you losing coolant in your reservoir tank? I have a cometic HG and I noticed that even with light driving (car doesn't over heat at all) Im losing a drop in the over flow tank. Every 2 weeks I have to fill it up a drop, Id say about 6 oz. I wonder if my HG has a tiny leak somewhere?

Did you have any of the above symptoms?

plugs werent white- soaked black...
pistons were white or... at least a "tan"
wasnt loosing alot of coolant in the overflow.. more in the rad.

I have used Cometic for some time now, never once had a problem in my personal motors (****, Ive even reused them in my motor before) or any of my customers. All types of engines, 200+ n/a, 500+ turbo.
Both MLS and HP have been good to me and my customer.
Most of the time when there is a hg failure its due to other circumstances. If your blowing them dont blame the gasket and start diagnosing your problems elsewhere.

Just replaced my cometic with an OEM honda today, due to my cometic blowing with only 1,500 miles on it

ive gone threw 2 cometics and im on my third as of tonite . this one was the worst but wasnt fully blown . i drove on it for a few thousand miles and no milk shake . but it would literally shoot out of my overflow tank if i boosted . when i drove to get my cf hood i took my stock hood off. when i boosted i got a nice shower of coolant all over my windshield lol.... i even had my head resurfaced and it wasnt warped so i dont know what to do now.....i hope this solves my problem.

had the same exact problem, boost was creeping into my water jackets and shooting coolant out of the overflow EVERYWHERE in my engine bay. I pulled the head today, to find that most of the damage was done to the 3rd cyl on the headgasket. Cometic gets the big from me. trying OEM honda this time, make that will do the trick.

just look at your headgasket, where it sits around the cylinder. If the black is looks like it is torn away, you know your headgasket its blown/on its way out.
