Head Gasket??
My ej2 overheated and had a hissing sound and i figured that it ran out of coolant. Filled it up and took it for a drive to see if there was a leak because there wouldn't be anything on my driveway.
It was driving fine until smelled something sweet and smoke coming from the hood. Found a leak from the hose connected to the engine and the thermostat. Refilled the coolant and ghetto rigged the hose to try and get home. White smoke started to come out of the tail and the car started to struggle. I was thinking it was the head gasket and everything points to it other then the fact that when i look in the engine from the oil filler i cant see any signs of coolant.
I didn't fix the hose yet but decided to do a compression test and 3 of the cylinders had low compression. Could it be because of the hose?

Re: Head Gasket??
i'm sure for 90% that it is the headgasket, if you didn't drive very much in this condition.
remove the head and replace the gasket and reface the head if the block is ok.
execuse my bad english...

Re: Head Gasket??
for sure he's burning coolant. i just wanted him to know that when he looses compression it couln't be for a ripped water hose.
@NENET i'm pretty sure you engine is loosing compression because you run out of water and the engine overheated and during that you've blown your head gasket.
i had 3 ej2 with d15b7 engines and they all were very declicate for overheating.
