1992 Civic Si question...
does this come stock with VTEC? my bro tells me its too old to have VTEC i looked under the hood at a used car dealership and (after shrugging at the non-impressive-looking SOHC
) i didnt notice any montion of VTEC at all.

not such an educated statement on your bro's part.
but yeah, it came with VTEC stock.
EDIT: Also, if you were looking at a '92 Si at an independent used car dealership then it's just a possibility that the motor in it isn't the original motor. Perhaps the original motor was wrecked in an accident or it was rendered unusable in some other way and the people who did the repairs just threw in a less-expensive NON-VTEC SOHC motor in there.
Heck, my buddies Si came with a JDM D15B from an independent used dealer.

It's still a Vtec engine
. It also has a more aggressive came
. He got lucky with that one.

hes wrong about that too, the ex's came with front disc:rear drums and those have the same engine as that gen's si (d16z6) i had a 94 lx and it had disc all around so i dont really know which came with 4wheel disc though but he is definitely wrong on a side note check the engine code and thatll tell you right away if its a d16z6 or not left side of the engine right on the block tell your bro to blow off and do some research b4 he talks

The 92 SI has vtec. Just look at the block code and that will answer your question. Also I dont think the valve cover said vtec untill 94 so that is prolly why your bro thinks its not.

^^^^ He knows what he is talking about. Also a really easy sign is where your spark plug hols are. Up front=Vtec At the back=no vtec. <-- And I am talking about the front and back of the valve cover.

ionno about that, canada is wierd, the SI's over there are shitty compared to the usdmn version (121hp vs 160hp i believe?)
the easiest way to tell is if it says "Vtec Honda" on it....duUh!
also Si, here in the US, has Vtec for shure...92+
check the vin of the motor if it matches the car, cuz the shell could be from an Si but motor could have been swapped....
the d16z6 motor (sohc vtec) fits perfectly in that car and goes for less than 500$ around heree (Dunno about canada)
and b series motors arent that hard to swap in either...if the price is right and the car runs til u can buy another motor, grab it!

LOL....I think you should research before posting. If where talking all the same year and engine then you are wrong. '99 si have a B16 so maybe that's what your thinking about.
