93 SI failed smog need help figuring out why
My friends SI failed smog and the only thing that failed the visual\check was his timing, it was at 8 BTDC.
He failed the roller test BADLY.
I have never tried diagnosing a failed smog as I have always passed, but is there anything in the numbers that can help me determine what the problem is?

i cant help you but others can....maybe a scan of the results or a pic of the paper or w/e will help but for now,

YES! timing affects smog a lot. I can vouch for this. my timing was at 19 and smoke was coming out of my exhuast during the test. obviously i failed.
lowered the timing to 15 and i passed the emissions part, not much, but still passed.
fix the timing to where it should be (i believe it should be 14-18), this is where the engine will be at its most efficient, then he should pass no problem.
