I'm the first to admit when I need to some help...but I always hate to ask for it. So here we go.

My power steering rack is making some God awful high pitched screeching noises whenever I turn the wheel. This isn't your typical consistent whining that occurs when the belt is loose, and it only occurs when I turn the wheel.

Now, for a little background that may shed some light on the problem. Last year I was involved in an accident that damaged the front end of my car and subsequently cut the lines going to the fluid reservoir. So the fluid drained from the reservoir and the car had to run a few days dry (BTW, the hood was smashed in a way that I could not open it to make repairs). When the car finally got fixed, it ran fine for a couple months and then the screeching began.

So my question is... Is the steering rack junked? Is this a result of the rack having to run dry? Was there something that was missed when the shop was making the repairs? The car steers fine, if anything it's a little loose (but that could just be it needing an adjustment)...but the noise just sucks. BTW...the car is a '94 Civic Si.

Anyone? It's probably a moot point because after 200-something-K miles, I might as well just replace it.
