can i make 190whp?
okay heres the deal. I'm collecting parts to rebuild my daily drivers motor. Its a 95gsr. I'm trying to make between 190-200whp on motor and then spray on top. The internalls will be forged but i'm really trying not to have to spend the extra cash on a sleeved block. So far i have a typeR head with toda springs, cam gears and portflow retainers. Cams are gsr but i plan on changing them obviously. i have victor x manifold, three inch thermal exhaust and a dual friction clutch masters. I'm planning on using a ls block with a final compression of about 11.0-1. i dont know if i'm going to have to get a sleeved block and bore to 84 to make my power goals, or what king of cams i'm looking at using. I really want to keep the powerband under 9grand since this is a daily driven car. any suggestions would help a lot.
Since you want to keep the Rev's under 9K Buddyclub 3+ make power under those rpms. And porting along with a good header and tunning will get you past the 200whp barrier. But you shouldnt worry about peak horsepower, having a nice powerband is more important.

i didnt want to port the head cause its kinda a high dollar item. I figure it would be better to leave it alone or sell it to get a ported b16 head. I think i spent about 1300 on this head already.

honestly you could probably keep the head, and get a good header and probably some skunk 2's and decent tuning and see a peak number of 190 or so.
A simple set-up will net some decent gains, a ITR TB and IM, good valve job, header and properly matched cams, along with parts you already have and MOST importantly a good tune can easily produce a "strong" motor something that has a healthy powerband along with a good peak number for bragging rights.

^ thats kinda wha ti was thinking. I figured te head would be good for the power i'm trying to put down. Most of this motors power will come in a bottle. I just need something that will be relatively healthy on the street.
hows the victor x manifold compare to the typeR? I'm thinking i may need to sell it for something with longer runners and a smaller plenum to keep the power band under 8500-9 grand.

just make sure your compression is good... get some good cams (Rocket, buddyClub, Skunk2... all proven) some head work, and definitely a good header, and your 1.8 should make high 190's easily.
if you want to sleeve it to 84mm... generally, with all the above work mentioned, plus 84 mm, you should get around 220hp average
