Default fuel gauge gone crazy

hi guys. . . this is my first post. its for my wifes car. she has an 01 civic dx. . . auto. . . geh. anyways, im sick of looking at the fuel gauge thats gone nuts on me. it reads anywhere it wants to. it goes to a different location on the dial everytime you start the car up. i have to go by mileage and the light now. . . and its just annoying. anyways, i was wondering if anybody could shed some light on this situation for me. i looked for the fuel pump apparatus (sp?) and stopped after i found it wasnt uder the carpet in the trunk (thats where it is on my rx-7). im just wondering if this is something that HAS happened to anyone else in the past and if its something that i need to bring up to the dealership or if im an idiot and need to actually go do some work. . . which i dont care to do. hahahaha.

thanks,
paul

well i'm not sure about the em2, but i know our cluster handles the mileage. I wouldn't be surprised if it were the same for your car. It'll change but as long as you document it well, then you won't have any problems.

Bad gas maybe? I read a report posted on here a while ago about Shell gasoline stations having too high of a sulfur level in their gas, therefore damaging car's gas guages....

actual milage is stored in the ecu. However the cluster will display the milage of the car it was teken out of. Just document it and you'll be fine.

i heard about a report on the news for the bad gas. . . i wonder if that did it. my wife fills up anywhere she wants to. . . and there arent any shells near us so i figure if it was the shell gas, it should be back to normal now. . . unless its a permanent thing. maybe its just a "contact cleaning" thing. guess ill have to get an FSM for this one.
