Default vtec oil pressure switch problem

88 hatchback d16z6
chipped p28
obd0-obd1 conversion harness
no plug to go into vtec oil pressure switch
ive been getting code 21 which is vtec spool solenoid...so i rechecked my instructions from the place i got the conversion harness and it says green wire to vtec oil pressure switch and black to vtec solenoid...so today i recheckd my wires and it seemed like my homeboy who did the conversion got the wires crossed and had black to nothing and green to solenoid...so i re did them....i had green go to ground and black to solenoid....the only reason i had green go to ground because i dont have the plug that goes into the oil pressure switch....so i reseted the ecu and checked my codes again...code21 is gone now but getting code 22....is there a way to get vtec working and get rid of code 22 without getting the plug for the switch....remember im using a conversion harness....

May sound stupid, but what oil are you running? If you are positive that it is wired correctly and you are still throwing 21 or 22 then check elsewhere. try cleaning the solenoid screen and solenoid. Has the oil been changed lately? I had problems with vtec engaging in the past and was going crazy trying to find the problem. I was throwing 21 and 22 as well...Come to find out, I was running too thin of a synthetic. I changed over to a higher vescocity oil, cleaned the solenoid and screen, reinstalled and havent had a problem since. My wiring was fine all along.

Keep in mind that vtec will not spool unless you have proper oil pressure.

if your car is lowered your oil pan tends to bottom out often causing dents if there is a dent in the oil pan your oil pump cant bring in enough oil in the VTEC engagement range check your Pan Oil Pressure=VTEC

i am having a similair problem i wanted to throw this in here see if you guys have any input.... i periodically throw code 21 just every once and a while not always...i run 10w-30 synthetic penzoil anyone think that i should switch to 10w-40 or something i get confused with the numbers so im not 100% sure by the way its a turbo car...the engine is stock and i cant find any traces of oil pressure loss yet my gauge reads like 10psi at idle and 50ish at high rpm i dont think i am switching to vtec because of it but i am unsure of the exact psi required for the switch over the only possible cause i can think of other than the oil viscosity is one of my valve cover bolts broke off and is just sitting there now i know thats not a good thing but i am pretty sure that wouldnt be affecting my oil pressure. correct me if im wrong

try taking the solenoid off and cleaning the screens with brake cleaner... sometimes they get blocked by built up oil/sludge and cant flow properly
