cluster just stopped working! HELP!
So i was driving down the road and all of a sudden my tach dropped and stopped working, same with my fuel and temp gauge, i have no clue why i checked all my fuses and there all perfect, i replaced the cluster and it still doesnt work, and i swapped another PM6 in it but that didnt fix it either, i have no clue what it could be please help! Im lost on what it could be, any comment would help
Yeah dude I think he is on the right track. This car I got has been having problems like that too, sometimes they stop working, sometimes they all go to the top, sometimes the lights do not work ect....but I have been having ground problems like crazy all up yeah the front lights are. They undid all the grounds and wiring to paint the engine bay so they are a huge rats nest.
well when it happened, i didnt have a deck in my car, and they just cut the plug off so all those wires where exposed so im wondering if a couple of those wires touched and shorted something, cuz all my grounds seem to be good

Anyways you could give us a full run down on everything you have done to the car lately?? and anything that could have happened that might, in any way, effect the cluster or any wiring in the car.
ok ill start from the beginning, i bought the car bone stock about a week and half ago, and everything worked perfectly, gauge cluster didnt jump or stutter or anything, all the lights came on, everything worked on the cluster with no problems, when i boughth the car there was no radio in it,since then i have lowered the car, and different wheels, but all the wires were covered by electrical tape (they cut off the plug off the harness) well i had another plug so i pulled off all the electrical tape, but realized that i had no butt connectors, so all the wires were exposed, on my way home from the store with my butt connectors, my turn signals, clock, the lights up by the mirror that are on if u dont have your seat belt on, and gauge cluster stopped working all at the same time. Now on the gauge cluster, the speedo was the only thing that worked, when u go to start your car all the lights come on, on the dash, check engine, all those, well now the only one that comes on is the battery light. all the lguthing on the dash and cluster works fine. Now, i started checking fuses and realized my turn signal one was blown so i replaced it, about two seconds later after trying my turn signals it popped again, so i put in a 15 fuse and it popped again ,so now i have a 30 in there and its been doing fine. so i put in my jdm cluster thinking that maybe i fried the cluster, but it still doesnt work. so i tried swapping ecu's and it still doesnt work. i have no i dea what it is. ive looked ata ll the connections, theres no loose wires, the stock cluster had never been pulled from car b4, i bought it from an old lady so the whole car is virgin when it comes to wiring. theres no blown fuses, o o one thing i dont have corner lights at all, the fixtures, i dont have any and i cant find the harnesses that the bulbs are supposed to go into. so im not sure what it is. hopefully that will give u more insight into what went on. o by the way the car is an 89 CRX si if that helps at all.
Pull the cluster out and check the voltage in the wiring. Each plug has at least one power wire in it. I seriously doubt you fried the cluster, that's pretty hard to do.
The radio only has a dimmer wire, even if you intentionally grounded it out, your cluster will still work.
Check all the fuses, and do NOT put a larger fuse in it's place if it's blown. It's got a 15 there for a reason, if ya put a 30, you run a risk of burning something up.
Just sit down one day with a multi meter and start tracking stuff down.
As much as I hate to say it, search. Once ya get the pinouts for the cluster, check them, and see what's wrong. These cars are very simple to work on, so, as long as ya got a multi meter, you'll be fine...

A fuse blows for one of 2 reasons.
1. A short.
2. Too much current being drawn.
Check for any pinched lines. Did you do ANY work to the car recently?...change any bulbs, a new sensor, anything?
Check in those areas. Like I said, get in there with a multimeter and a wiring diagram. Without seeing it, it's reallllly hard to troubleshoot.
