Default Brake Lamp ....

I have an 86 accord. Whenever i start the car there is nothing abnormal lit up on the dash...as soon as i put my foot on the brake to put it into reverse (its automatic) the "brake lamp" indicator pops up on my dash....It stays on till i turn my car off...

I have checked all the brake lights, as well as backup lights and running lights....nothing is burnt out or ecstatic.

I have checked the master cylinder to see if maybe fluid was low....it was not....

I have bled the brake lines and cleaned and adjusted the rear drum brakes...

I checked the front brakes and there is lots of life left...

Nothing has worked....Any idea what could be causing this light to come on?? Like i said it doesn't come on when i first turn the car on, only when i go to take it out of park. thanks guys!!

it could be the brake lamp sensor ,,there is one on each tail lite assembly it is where the brake lite wiring plugs in

it does not look like a relay it is mounted by 2 or 3 screws and mounted right on the tail lite assembly

You also need to check the ground connection in the trunk for the taillights. I forgot to do that, and my lights were all screwed up for a few weeks

hey deserthonda, i pulled off the brake light cover and i see something held in by 2 screws ..a little black box..one on each side ......is there anyway i can test to see which one failed?? using a test light or anything....Your talking about the brake light assembly in the trunk not the trunk lid right? cause there is 2 black boxes in there too...

yo nother,, that is the box i am talking about but i just realized something that i did not think about before....the brake lite that comes on is it the 1 that is got the picture of a car and also lite up when you have door open??? or is it the main brake lite on dash tht comes on when you apply e-brake???
if it is 1 that has pic of car then whichever side is lit that is the box that is faulty ...using a test lite i would need an etm to trace wiring color to chk power going into and out of box,,
if it is the main 1 that comes on when you apply emergence brake than the problem is not the box let me know ..

Its not the emergency brake light. It is the light on the little car like you said, the one that lights up when the door is open. but there is not sides on that little light it just says "brake lamp" and takes up the whole back of car....I am going to order 2 of the brake lamp sensors on monday and replace them both and hope that will work, i'll let you know desert! thanks for your help!

beside all that, check the sensor for the brake fluid tank, it might be stuck or disconnected.

do reset the ecu after all fixing to clear it up

yo iam7 ,,just so you know the brake sensor in the master cylinder will only cause the main brake lite come on the dash same as when you apply e-brake ,,not the 1 as if a bulb is out and on an 86 there is no ecu to reset
