Default compression test messed up ignition coil?

hey just wondering if i did something wrong on my compression test, cause after i did my compression test (cranking the motor with the starter) got the numbers and then when i installed everything together try to start the car and car wouldn't start. found out it was the ignition coil. replaced it and it was all good again. but the million dollar question is why did the ignition coil go bad. was it time or did i do something wrong during the test?

did you remove the 15 amp fuse, or disconnect the distributor. I bet that is why you had to replace the ignition coil.

Never turn the engine over without unpluging the distributor during a compression test. Ignition fire needs to go to ground. It is bad for the coil not too.
