Default surging at idle

I need help. My '01 prelude is surging at an idle only when in gear. It sometimes lurches into gear. This is only happening when the engine is hot and it is hot outside. The tran has been flushed and I have kept up to date on oil changes and air filters with plugs. Any help? know any mechanics in B'More area? Only 38k on engine and trans.

i had the same problem when i bought my 99. most likely it is your Idle air control unit or you might have a hole after your mass airflow sensor. either way im almost positive it is an airflow sensor problem.

i had the same problem. I brought it to the shop and after engine diagnostic they replaced the intake manifold. It's fine now.

Why does it only do it when the engine is hot? And another question, Does my car have a lock-up converter? Chitown2005- could there be a vaccum leak that is causing this surging? Thanks so much for your insight.

Going to the store to get some carb cleaner today to see if there is a leak somewhere around the manifold. Hopefully I will find the problem soon. It is getting warmer and I am getting more aggrevated. Do you know any decent mechanics in Baltimore area? Thanks for all of the help. It has been great.

you need to reset your idle...

and whoever bought and paid for a new intake manifol got ripped off

there is something call the idle air control valve (iacv), thats what controls the surge

do a google search for adjusting the iac, you'll find the proper steps to reset and adjust the iac

takes about 5 minutes to do and it works.
