Default friend f*cked up

sooo i go out to ride with my friend on his 01 R6, we get gas and head off. About 10 minutes after getting gas, it bogs down and smoke EVERYWHERE.

Well .. he filled it with diesel. We got all the diesel out and put in some of my 92 octane and let it run thru ... alot of smoke, but within 15 minutes it was running fine. What should he do now? Oil change? Clean the carbs?

Just take his keys and kick him in the sack. Diesel is kinda a oil; maybe it will burn off? No idea.

It's ok. It'll burn itself out of the system after a couple refills.

Damn your friend shouldn't ride a bike like that if he doesn't know what gas pump to pick up.

His bike is useless. Sell it to me for $5, and tell him to buy a new one.

Diesel is just a less refined gas. So it is more oily than a regular gasoline. Also it a huge difference in octane compared to heptane. Octane being a hydro-carbon that can only be broken with an ignition such as a spark plug. Heptane is very volitale which can break under compression.

That being said I bet it first off knocked like a bitch because it burst before complete compression. I don't know much about the power created from that explosion compared to a normal one sooo ... It could have damaged internals, fouled up your plugs (most likely) and maybe some dirty carbs just from the oily residue.

Just things to check for and since you said it was running fine I doubt there is any problem but just check them out.

I don't think the 87 compared to 91 is much difference. My friend used to put in 87 and it ran fine. Then he saw me use 93, and he changed. He didn't really have to though.

Just by any chance does he go to BP Amoco alot?

Being a diesel owner, I usually get Shell 95% of the time, but pretty much every place I go the handle is in fact green.

Well the dealer I work for is right across the street from a BP Amoco and not even thinking (they don't even sell diesel there) I was walking over to grab a coffee and I saw this lady putting (what I thought) was diesel in her car, I ran over and was like ma'am I think you are putting diesel in your car. She panicked and stopped, and then I looked. All of their 87 handles are Green. I apologized and explained myself and she thanked me and I walked away kicking at what little pride I had left on the ground. It got me thinking though, people that use BP Amoco alot could easily go to a Shell or Texaco or place that sells diesel at the same pump and put it in their vehicle just not thinking. Which is why I think all these places should have separate pumps. It's not like Europe where 50% of all vehicles are diesel powered and you actually need a diesel pump at each one.

Sucks for your friend though. I don't think he needs to do an oil change, but I would drain the tank and carbs as dry as I could, fill it up with fresh gas, maybe even add a pour in cleaner, like something from PJ1 etc... and let it cycle through. If you can drain the tank and carbs, shouldn't really be much to burn off.

As sad as it sounds, I just had an S2000 come in here the other day and had to do the same thing to it....

It's alright.... my friend was about to fill his radiator up with oil. Luckily, someone was there to tell him "WTF are you doing?!?"

Some people are useless!

hahaha, I actually did it once. All you need to do is just to drain the tank, the carb, and change the plugs. It maybe smoking for a couple of refills, and you will probably need to change the plugs one more time.

Your friend should not own a motor vehicle of any sort.
