Default Broken Timing belt .............possible damage? What a ******* day

CLIFF NOTES:
Today is my 3rd anniversary, car died with broken timing belt, noone was able to come help, car got towed costing me $95 and now is going to the shop tomorrow morning for a new Honda belt and Honda water pump $385 plus it will be under warranty.

HAPPY ******* ANNIVERSARY TO ME!

What a ******* day. Today is my 3 yr wedding anniversary and it started off with a bang. We were supposed to go to the zoo with our 3 yr old daughter.

8am Wifes brother comesin and tells us the car died and wont start but turns over. first thing came to mind was when my old Supra tore teeth off the timing belt. I thought holy **** the valves! Then he says its sitting in the driveway of a warehouse. it ******* got TOWED around 4pm!!! $95

So every single person I call or message for help throughout the day can help in no way.

Mom is in Kemotherapy, sister is working at 2 stores, other sister is on the way to work, wifes sisters BF totaled his truck yesterday and HIS brother's truck was stolen by his friend who was on coke and drunk and crashed it into the back of a semi at 110 mph. I will post the link to that story in a second. his mom who picked up my wifes brother got a nail in her tire taking them back home to my house, my friend who was about to leave to come get me called me and said he got a flat tire in his driveway and was stuck at home, called a house where 4 of my friends lived and they were ALL AT WORK. Luckily Rob was at that house and came to the rescue.

Edit - Heres the news story on the brothers truckhttp://www.firstcoastnews.com/...5&bw=

Now that we confirmed its the timing belt by removing the distributor cap and bumping the starter a few times and the cap not turning its time for a repair.

$385+tax for genuine honda part water pump and timing belt installed and warranty. and the tow from the tow yard to the shop is free. cant beat that with an ugly stick. the mechanic at the tow yard quoted me $450+!!!

So FINALLY to my question. The car died at only about 15-20 mph and had JUST left a stop light. what is the possibility of the lovely clearance motor honda built having bent valves and how can I test that without removing the head?

Well, hopefully it works out ok for you. I've had two timing belts go away, and have had no damage to speak of.

Honestly, it's not a difficult fix. It takes some time, for sure, but you should only need to pay ~$80 for the timing belt, ~$15 for the balancer belt, and $35 (IIRC) for the water pump. The teardown and replacement will take most of a day if you're a first-timer.

Also, a Helms manual is your best friend...costs $65, but saves tons of money in labor just for little things (not to mention stuff like this).

I've gotten lucky also. I was actually on the freeway going about 65 when I was about to pass somebody when I lost all power to my car. pulled off the valve cover to find the timing belt snapped. replaced the timing belt and the water pump, did a compression test 245 245 245 245 across. still need to do a leakdown just to make sure...good luck

i dont think $35 will buy him a Honda waterpump...

do a compression test and it should tell you if you have any bent valves

yea sorry bout that......and an addition to the story.

I GOT ARRESTED THURSDAY NIGHT!!!! got pulled over speeding ....again.....and signed for my tickets and got arrested for a capias (warrant) for driving on a suspended license.....but I have since gotten my license back and have been driving for about 3 months now. And in court this morning the judge didnt even give me a chance to speak for myself or get a public defender and forwarded my case back to the original judge and was going to detain me until JUNE 22ND!!!!! ****! so my wife bonded me out, $500 of a $5,000 bond. what a ****** week.

WEEEEE BULLSHIT

And the shop thats been working on the car for the past 3 days hasn't even gotten the crank pulley off. First they needed a special tool to get the crank bolt off.......then in the process they bent the "crank key" as they said. We now have to extend our rental because they have not even gotten STARTED on the timing belt and told us the car would be done in ONE day, not three. we are most definitely NOT PAYING FULL PRICE!

ok well they finally got started on the job, the morons broke the keyway that connects the crank to the pulley, installed an AC delco water pump told us it has a lifetime warranty and the guy stuttered when my wife asked him for warranty papers.

The timig belt was not caused by being old but was caused by a broken timing belt tensioner. the guy showed it to me and compressed the spring between 2 fingers. They are morons and cant produce the original parts they took off. Then he asked me if the compression test yielded a bent valve if I wanted them to put everything back together!!! YES YOU *******! I dont care if its going to have to come right back off to do the head work. We are definitely not paying full price if at all. The amount of time they have taken required us to extend our rental car contract.
