make sure you use genuine honda atf. i forget the EXACT amount, but check the owners manual, should have the correct amount.

and a flush is indeed needed.

this is what i've gathered over the year if you're doing it yourself.

drain the atf in car, pour in some new atf, drive around shifting etc for like 10minutes, go home, drain that, and fill it back up. that should be good to go. but its kinda $$$, honda atf don't come cheap. do the math on how many quarts you need, and check how much your local honda dealer does it for. i got too lazy to do mine, so i paid $79 to get it done. i doubt they FLUSH it.. they prolly just drain and refill... oh wells.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1195661 search is your friend. one guy suggested another method..

why would u pay a dealer to do it? it's the samething as doing an oil change basically. steps are just a little different.

because i dont' have time and buying the ATF alone will cost you $50+ so rather just spend extra $20 to let a "professional" do it. but that's just me.

I just changed mines not so long ago. You will need 3 bottles of those ATF. But they actually uses 2 and a half bottles. So therefore you need 3 bottles. They won't sell you half a bottle.

The manual calls for either 3 quarts for a 'drain and fill' OR 7 quarts for a "reverse flush and fill". If you have over 30k and/or the car is 6 years old-do it right and have a dealership do the reverse one. That is the way I did it the second time at 30K. The book does say you can go longer than the 15k intervals, but I chose to do it and had no issues with the tranny the way I'm suggesting.

for atf cars, i tend to follow the every other oil change rule. i change ATF out every other time i do an oil change.

The stuff was actaully cheaper than I thought. Bought 4 quart bottles for 20 bucks at honda. I ended up using almost all 3 quarts to completely drain and fill, plus I used about another half to help flush it. Woulda done a full flush but money's tight right now, so Ill do it again when I change my oil ina couple of weeks. Dunno about the manual ludes, but changing it was easy as hell.

The stuff that was in there before was really nasty, who knows when the last time it was changed. ALthough now the car definetly shifts and drives smoother than before, it didnt cure the strange noise comming from the tranny as I had hoped but it should help. Seems that things a timebomb waiting to die on me. Hopefully itll last long enough for me to pay it off and sell it to get a 5 speed SH...or maybe an s2k...
