Default high flow cat or test pipe/ resonator?

i want to get rid of my cat converter. first of all its falling apart. corroded a lot. plus i have headers and exhaust and the cat is still stock. i want to complete my system. if i got a high flow cat what would be the HP gain if any compared to a test pipe? also the sound difference...what would it be, would a test pipe make it sound awful? any opinions would be awesome, thanks.

PS. also, i have a dc sports exhaust on my car. does anyone know what diameter it is? it was on there before i bought the car so i dont know the model or anything. it looks like 2.5 anyone have an idea?

its a 2.25 inch exhaust; if you put on a test pipe itll be really loud; id just get a high flow. the 1-2 more hp youll gain with a test pipe isnt worth the extra attention from the pigs.

the noise will be a problem for you, when you decide that it's loud and obnoxious to ride it. i think you should get a high flow cat.

high flow cat will quiet it down better than a test-pipe and be less raspy. I have a 2.5 test-pipe and it's pretty raspy but it's better than a stock cat and my car is soo damn loud it doesn't matter anymore at this point. If the noise doesn't matter to you, then get a test-pipe, it'll yeild a few more horses.

I own a 95gsr and have a DC sports header and cat back system i just hollowed out my stock cat it is not loud, annoying and it doesn't give off bad smell, no check engine light either save some money and use your current one just gut it

Gutting out your cat actually causes turbulence in your exhaust system and hinder's performance.

Just go with a high flow cat.

i would say a hi-flow cat is a good investment and it keeps the car quiet...with a test pipe its noisy, but if thats not a problem with you then get a test pipe, only because its cheaper and you can save money...either way, its a horse power gain

from my understanding in researching this the hp gain from a high flow cat to a test pipe is like 1/2-1 whp.

certainly not worth it. I would say get the cat.

hmmm so I guess with your logic - 2 wrongs make a right? You might wanna consider gettin your ride legal so you don't get it impounded. Impounded=

i have a testpipe now and i want to buy a high flow cat so bad.

high-flow plus- better sound, no smell, and enviroment safe.
test-pipe plus- cheaper and more horsepower

test-pipes should only be used for all track cars, not street cars.

i say go with the high-flow. i wish i did. the ****** is way too loud even with my apexi ws(which makes less noise than most cat-backs).

hope this helps.

well my point was that i have so many violations on it now its impossible to go back to legal now. exhaust and tint being the main things. the lights are another story, my taillights. its not going to make a difference if its louder or not. i am leaning towards the test pipe at this point. thanks for all your help guys

i got a gsr with headers, test pipe, apexi n1 catback pipings using a stock ITR muffler. i used to have the n1 axle back too and it was loud. and after i used stock itr muffler, it sounds just like stock and the Hp felt the same with the n1 axle back. no check engine lights or wut so ever. But still smells like crap.
