Default Reverse lights stay on even if I'm not in reverse

Hey guys, I have a small but irritating problem.
Lately I noticed that my reverse lights would be on even if I'm not in reverse. Weird thing is, if I wiggle the shifter towards the front of the car (1st, 2nd gear) or in the 5th gear region, it'll go away. If I put the car in 1st or 2nd, the light would still stay on unless I push past the 'in gear' position. It does not stay on when I'm in 5th gear though. Basically if I'm in gear or in neutral the reverse lights would stay on unless I push/hold the shifter towards the front of the car, past the point where your shifter is already in gear.

Has any one exprienced the same problem or know what the cause might be? FYI, I have the forbidden short shifter installed on a 4th gen prelude. ANy help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

there is a switch on the tranny that controls the reverse lights. You might try checking that.

Could you elaborate on what I should check?
I mean the switch seems work because when I'm in reverse the light goes on, then when I take it out of reverseit'll go off for a split sec and then back on it goes when im in Neutral/gear. It only goes away when I push it towards the front of the car and/or if I push and hold it past the point that it's already in gear.

How does the back-up light switch turn on? When the car is in reverse or some sort of lever that 'sense' the shifter's position in reverse? It seems like somethings misguided or misaligned because it'll go off if I push the shifter foward, not sure if I'm making any sense.

I understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure of how the mechanical parts inside the transmission move to push the the switch button. Here's a diagram of where the switch is...

Part #9.

You can take it out and look at it. If this only started recently and nothing was significantly changed, it may need to be lubed or replaced. Possibly you could add some washers to make it sit higher...but I wouldn't think you'd need to go that far.
