Default oil pressure sending unit - to cluster only or to ecu?

I need to know if the oil pressure sending unit off a Bseries motor connected to a 96 Civic CX ECU harness is connected to the ECU or not.

I have done a search and have read varying information. Some are saying that the sending unit acts as a on/off switch for the oil light in the gauge cluster. Some are saying that it serves the cluster and the ECU. Those saying that it serves the ECU are saying that it will let the ECU know if the motor has sufficient oil pressure so that VTEC can engage.

Please help me out if you know that answer. This is open to debate but solid answers from several sources would be helpful so that I can properly diagnosis why my VTEC doesn't want to engage. This is one variable I need to knock out.

There are 2 oil pressure sensors for the VTEC engines. The one on the back of the block is an on/off switch for the cluster only. The one on the side of the head is for the ecu in determining whether the VTEC system has sufficient oil pressure.

they are both switches; they both only switch on or off.
you need 50+ psi in order for the vtec switch not to trigger.
the oil light needs more than i think 5 psi

I think it's around 7.5 or something pathetic like that...

Ah ha! Ok good. So is the oil sensor on the head located (from the front of the car back) behind the water sensor and the head and slightly down from distributor? if not where is it located.

also if anyone else would like to confirm the accuracy of the above posts feel free. but i am very confident of their replies i had the same gut feelings

well i am getting 5.5 - 6.0 kg/cm2 of oil pressure. now i have to convert this to see if this is enough for vtec engagement.

5.5 kg/cm^2 = 78 psi.

thanks jim

ya i found a conversion table online. i was really surprised to find that we have that many psi in our heads. that is alot of pressure.!
