Default Building up H22a4

K, heres my short little story. Bought engine, dropped it in, spun bearing. Ok, now heres my idea for a nice small little setup. Getting it honed, getting new rings for type s pistons, and all new bearings, seals, etc. For the head, I am getting some RM cams, valves, springs and retainers.

So far I have the Type s pistons. Have ACL bearings on the way with plastiguage, and thrust washers. Going to be sending block out to get honed in the next week.

Now, since I am getting the block honed cause it needs it. I can still use regular h22 rings with the type s pistons right? I read they are all the same but didn't know if I needed different rings since it is getting honed.

I also was reading a little bit up on welding the chambers. Didn't hear too much on it so I don't know if it is worth it.

I am sure I forgot something so let me know what you think. Thx

Use the regular Type-S pistons and rings. Make sure you have the right ones (A or B). Make sure that when they hone it they do it the correct way for the FRM sleeves per the Honda manual and that they watch the piston to wall clearance.

On the head... have a pro do it and go here http://www.dprracing.com

Thanks. I got a block that had type s pistons in it allready. Can I just measure the pistons to find out what rings I need? Not sure if they are OS or STD. I am having a machine shop do the honing.

And thx for the recommendation on the head. I am all about learning this stuff so I am going to have an experienced guy help me out on all this. Just figured I had time for more opinions. Thx

I am staying NA so any more tips would be great.

Any idea on how much it cost to get the chambers welded?

I would have a good sit down chat with MAX_CFM on this board before making any headwork decisions.

Nothing is wrong with ACL. MAX_CFM is a smart head porter/engine builder on here. Talk to him or call and talk to Dan at DPR 310-523-4074.

If I read it right, they got one in Illinois. Even toledo is still worth driving too. You guys have experience with them? By the sounds of it, they seem well known.

I am DPR IL (see my sig). For something like chamber welding we would send it straight to DPR headquarters in CA. And yes, Dan is well known and has MANY MANY accomplishments all around the world. Some of the top Honda head porters today learned from and worked for him.
