searched w/o results, Engine rattling, no heatshields...
As the title says, i have removed all of the heatshields, still rattles and it sounds like it's coming from the engine anyways. it's a '00 gsr w/ 77k miles, rattling occured before and after i switched exhausts and removed heat shields. It also has stock intake. I just cant figure what the hell it is and where its even coming from...come on you guys, you know how awfully annoying this is!
did you remove the heat sheild covering the exaust manifold also?? there is a heat sheild above the cat also..
all heatshields are off...rattling is coming from the engine bay but I can't tell where b/c it only does it while driving. sounds like from the intake (passenger) side

The a-pipe may be the issue. The a-pipe is between the manifold and cat., it consists of tubes within tubes and these resonate at certain RPM's. To test, rev the engine while holding a screw driver against the a-pipe. It should be pretty evident if the a-pipe is causing the rattle, you'll feel a strong rattle up the srcew driver.
is it like an isolated rattle around a specific RPM like 3000-4500. cause yea it is common for GSRs to develop a nasty header rattle there as they get older. and the solution is to buy a new header, then no rattle. this is ofcourse assuming u have the stock GSR header right now...
my 95 rs is doing the same thing , i have tried the screw driver everywhere on it , it seems to rattle most when it is cold and it is quieter when it is warm , it isnt in the valve train it is definately external but i cant find it

Did it make the sound before you installed the header? My brothers old gsr used to rattle at certain rpms and we figured out it was coming from the header. A part broke off inside and would rattle around so we just pulled the header off and welded the piece back on.

You sure it not in the valvetrain? Is it a ticking or a rattle? It sounds like you need a valve adjustment.

I have to bring this back as I still cannot figure this **** out. Once again, i have NO HEATSHIELDS, dc 4-1, stock cat, and all the bolts are tight. Already had the valves adjusted.
Now, the rattling only happens once the car has warmed up. I can shake exhaust and get nothing. It only happens @ operating temp. between 3000-3500 rpm. Been searching and cant find anything as specific as my situation.
