Weird rattle from engine under load. WTF.
Just like the title says. Under 2.5k the engine has a strange rattling when at large throttle openings. It goes away when revved higher, and seems to do it with the clutch in or out (cant really tell, engine revs too quickly out of gear).
The engine runs strong, gets great mileage and only has 5-6k on it after a total rebuild. Could this be valves way out of lash? Maybe it has something to do with the GSR dual stage manifold?
I have no heat shields, no cat, and its not from the shifter area, its from the engine. Since its only under load, I only hear it while in the car- but it sounds like its coming from the transmission area toward the rear.
The rattle sounds like an exhaust heat shield rattle, if that helps any.
EDIT- It sounds alot like a rock getting vibrated in the bodywork of the car. Ive checked.....nothing

Its not detonation, my engine has a knock sensor, and im only running 10.5:1 on 91. Its also running Hondata and im not a complete ****-tard. its not a "ping" its a rattle.
Besides, its a mechanical sound, like an exhuast rattle. If hadnt taken off all my heatsheilds if blame them.
its not dull, it sounds very clear, just not very loud. Like metal against metal vibrating.
EDIT- timing is @ 17 degrees BTDC

I will be replacing my header soon with a one-piece big-collector header.....so we'll see if that's the case.
If its not detonation (and its not-its been doing this since the engine was rebuilt a year ago) then what could it be. Something out of whack in the head? Rock in the tranny? muffler bearings going bad? I mean....its not the noise that's bothering me, its not knowing what causing it that gets me.
Im starting to suspect the intake piping or the header.....more insight please.

My DA rattles like a old army tank. Join the club. I had some rattles that I never figured out, but you'll find that attaching all wires and clips in your engine to their appropriate places cures some, heatshields cause some, and if you have a short shifter, the bottom of the shifter may be touching the exhaust pipe.

My wires are fine, the heat shelids are gone and my shifter is stock (it rattles a bit, but thats not what im talking about).
It may be the header, I still have yet to change it out for the good one I have.

I keep on thinking its something like the pistons rattling inside the block (and yea, I know that there is no way in hell that's it)
More likely- I have a "too loose" bolt somewhere in the engine bay that's vibrating under load.

replaced header with long-tube one peice, replaced 02 sensor secured everything down tight, and it STILL rattles.
Anyone have any experiance with a water-pump rattling?
