Using a d- series compression calculator it says that a zc with a y8 head and 2-layer y8 head gasket produces 13.1 compression! I have the parts to build this motor and was wondering if anyone has done it and how wre the results?
the zc on that calculator is for the dohc. so you would actuall be put at about a 13.9. jeff from homemadeturbo.com built an all motor set up kinda like that. you would probably want to go with the z6 gasket since its metal. and that high of compression isnt gonna do much for you except deteonate unless you have other upgrades and tune it really good. plus you have to run a really high octane fuel. i dont know too much about build a high compression motor though. just little heres and theres.
13.9:1 static compression is really high for a daily driver. Your tuning better be spot on otherwise it is going to detonate with the shitty octane we get. I would suggest standalone engine management for a setup like this. Maybe turboedit or convert to OBD1 and use Hondata, Uberdata, Crome, or Neptune. The VAFC just doesn't have enough adjustment points to be able to fine tune this sensitive of a setup.
you would want a chipped ecu and tune it with turboedit. you can stick with obd0 and use the pm6 ecu chipped to run vtec and you use your stock distributor and it bolts right up.

I would go ahead and boost it but that is the easy way to make power. If you want to be different and like to tinker with the setup go for the all motor path.
Im confused... why would a sohc zc w/y8 head make 13.9? Isnt the sohc zc the same engine as the d16a6 minus the cam and springs?
i'm running a d16a6 block, dohc zc pistons, y8 head gasket, block was decked during build after the block guard was installed, head built by GUDE (shaved twice). engine was professionally built and assembled. i got it running, but havent gotten it tuned. i am running a ecu built by GUDE along with the head and intake manifold.
i havent had time to tune it, but it idles really good and revs extremely fast.
