ok i just bought a hatch with an ls/vtec swap. so i have no backround on the car, but the gauge reads like 1 at idle and when in gear going it goes up to like 16 but never over except 1 time since i had it it went up to like 25 then came right back down. could anyone tell me what the psi should be and what my first steps would be towards taking care of this problem? like would it be a spun bearing or oil pump. and if so what are some easy steps to find out for sure what it is?

 

Well, I know for my 92 RS, the oil pressure is supposed to be a MINIMUM of 10 lbs at idle and 50 lbs at 3K rpm. Either your gauge is incorrect or you have serious problems.

Oil pressure is the life's blood of the engine, get it fixed before driving anymore.
