So today I decided to go fab up an intake (because my AEM SRI broke at the bracket and left a hole the size of two quarters next to each other horizontally) using my SRI, and my stock intake pipe. I took the short ram, and sawed off the nipple plus the end curve, making it just a straight pipe. I took the oem intake hose and shoved the pipe into it as far as it would go, and then took one of the hose clampsand placed in on the intake hoseso it would tighten around the pipe, in hopes that it would seal, and the hole in the pipe would be fixed. I took the filter and put in on, placed the intake hose onto the throttle body and clamped everything up. Started the car, and voila, my intake is now fixed, and looks better than before. NOTE- I spray painted the pipe black to blend with the intake hose.
I soon noticed that the ram sits right next to a radiator hose, and decided to wrap the hose so that it wouldnt radiate onto the filter. I searched around my house and found very heavy duty aluminum foil pouches made for BBQ'ing. I figured it was strong enough to put on it so I did. I took one pouch, cut it in half, and wrapped the hose so that the bulk of it was covered. With the other half I went over a few spots that I had missed so that it was completely wrapped, and THICK. I havent tested it yet, but im hoping that it will at least keep temperatures down slightly. I will try to get pictures if anybody wants any.

Umm...what makes you think that aluminum foil will keep the temp down? It conducts heat. Thats why ppl cook on it. Can you imagine how hot that radiator hose will be since you wrapped that much foil around it. You are better off wrapping the pipe SRI with thermal wrap. Thermal wrap is sorta expensive but it keeps the temp down. Or you could use thermal tape they sell at hardware stores. I'm willing to bet you will shorten the life of that radiator hose. That foil will only maintain that heat. Just my 2 cents.

True it does conduct heat, but not as much as is coming from the hose itself. The foil wont get that hot, and I touched it after driving home from school today to find that it did in fact keep the heat from coming off of it (Foil was not hot to the touch either) The fact that we dont have a grille is what chaps my ***, so I figured I would attempt to at least do SOMETHING until I can muster up the cash to buy some insulation piping for dryers.
