Viscosity - you'll hear a lot of opinions here. The owner's manual says 5W30 is preferred at all temperatures.

Brand - again, you'll hear a lot of opinions. I happen to think that brand doesn't matter as much as deciding whether to use conventional oil, pure synthetic, or a blend. The advantage of synthetic (and, to a lesser extent, synthetic blends) is that they flow better when cold, and they are more resistant to breakdown when hot. The disadvantage is cost.

I use 5W30 Mobil 1 synthetic.

Ditto what nsxtacy said. I also use 5w-30 Mobile 1 synthetic. Seems like they burn off more compared to others, though. I usually read about .25-.5 quarts less for every 1500 miles.

You might want to search, because I'm sure there are a few threads on this.

I also use Mobile 1 5w30. I seldom burn a drop.

As a side note, I used to burn .5 quart every 3000 with conventional 5w30.

I burn a ton of Mobil1 5W30. I usually end up adding at least a quart or two between oil changes.

Every time I hit VTEC I think I burn a couple tablespoons.

i used to run mobil 1 5w-30 and found it burned really fast. Like a day at the dragstrip was about 1-1.5 quarts. Since ive switched to 10-30 mobil 1, i hardly notice any burning at al.

i havent tried it but i read that redline oil actually makes horsepower, im skeptical, but may try it soon, costs an arm and a leg tho.

currently using 10w30, may try synthetic soon

5w30 will do for stock/nearly stock motor/setup. and it don't have to be synthetic.

<-- 15w50 for this summer.. right now a mix of 5w40/15w50 comging from earlier spring oil change

at cost of providing less lubrication, thinner oil should obviously allow engine to move more freely, isn't that the reason race cars are starting to run thinner oils and multi-viscocity, keep in mind they sometimes and can afford to replace engine every race. theres a reason, 5w30 10w30 like oils are energy concerving, and they're still fine for stock type engine, i woudol'nt run 5w20 just to save on fuel and possibly .02 more hp.

The difference is not nearly that small...... but good earl off the autozone shelf will protect your motor just fine.

I need some of this: http://store.yahoo.com/ltbmoto....html in 0w20

The rated viscosity doesnt tell the whole story either.
