Default anybody else have shifter rattle?

when i rev all the way out between 6500-7500rpm, i get this really annoying loud rattle from the shifter. i got under the car thinking it was just where the shifter bolts to the linkage, but it was tight, even tightened it some more and checked the other bolts down there. still same rattle. anyone else had this and got rid of it?

Is there any play with this shifter? can you move it to the left or right more than an inch?

I got that problem when i installed a short shifter. To fix the problem, i got underneath the car and grinded down the part of the shifter that was rubbing, problem fixed.

it's the stock shifter, and not rubbing the exhaust or anything

could be a boot coming apart? the force on the shifter at those rpms COULD cause rattle, if one of the boots is torn or wearing out it COULD cause it to rattle.... i'm just thinking of things that could cause it, i dunno for sure....

that's actually what i was going to look into. i wonder if the boot is so ripped that the shifter is actually vibrating off the body where it comes thru. if i hold the shifter with some pressure it won't rattle.

Check your exhaust system to see if the rattle is coming from one of the brackets maybe? Do you feel a vibration on the shifter at the listed RPM's?

I'm laughing because I just cured the prob on mine (annoying as hell sound). I was actually two things with me. First, one of the rubber washers had dry rotted, which caused the shifter to vibrate against the linkage. And I also had a cracked input bearing ( which you should hope you don't). Hope this helps.
