If you let a car or bike sit for long periods, the seals and everything in the motor dont like it. They dry out and crack. That is why real old and low mileage cars should be avoided over a higher mileage car of the same year.
Engines were designed to be used to survive.

Doesn't matter the age. Engines like to be started and run on a regular basis. My brother inlaw has an '04 VMax with 250 miles on it. Lets just say that it doesn't like to start very much.
Once you get it running and warmed up, it will start right up a week later. Let it sit a month, not a chance you wont have to work with it to get it started.
