oxygen sensor nightmare... plz help!!
Hey all. I have a 98 Accord LX with about 163K miles on it. The 'check engine' light occasionally turns on but after a while it goes off. I decided to check what's causing this. Instead of going to the dealer and paying $80 for them to check it, I went to Advanced Auto Parts and they said it was code P0420. I checked online and found out that it was either the catalytic converter or the rear oxygen sensor. Being cheap and broke, I decided to replace the O2 sensor to see if that would alleviate the problem. I found a new O2 Honda Accord Sensor on eBay for $35 and replaced my old one. The check engine light is still on but now the code says P0141. I looked that up and its supposed to be an '02 sensor heater circuit fault'. Does this mean that the mechanic incorrectly connected the O2 sensor? It didn't seem that hard to replace. Or could it be that I received a defective unit???
any input would be greatly appreciated!!

The two same-color (black?) wires on the sensor are for the heater. The resistance between them should measure 15 to 40 ohms, and there shouldn't be any continuity to ground. If that's not OK then you've got a bad sensor.
Thats a very common problem regarding o2 sensors. For some reasons honda's are very sensitive to o2 sensors (especially honda's with ulev motors). They seem to only work with oem o2 sensors. After market o2 sensors from bosch, denso, and ngk sometimes won't turn off the light or the light will come back on. Also stay away from ones where you have to splice into the wires. Buy the ones that you just clip in. Also a side note, next time you just want to see why your check engine light is on, gotto aamco. They'll check it for FREE http://www.aamco.com/
if ur need a cheap oem sensor go to http://oxygensensors.com/ . i got a walker O2 sensor from them $94 plus tax shipped free.
