Oil Pressure Light coming on in the morning?
Hmm,
I just noticed this morning that when I go to start my car (cold start) my oil pressure light flashes like 3 times then goes away after it starts. I do have a small leak on the crankshaft pulley side of the oil pan but its so small, it doesn't really matter. Anyways, I think this could also be a culprit to why VTEC doesn't kick in that hard?
Could this leak be causing trouble with VTEC engaging?
Tia,
Jon

Considering the switch is working properly, that light only comes on when you have less than ~5psi of oil pressure. As was stated, hook up a gauge and see what you're pulling. Also, I believe VTEC needs 55psi to engage. Hopefully you have 55psi by 4-5k or wherever your engagement point is set. On my freshly rebuilt motor, I have 75psi by about 3-3.5k rpm.
VTEC will either engage or it wont. If it seems to "not kick in that hard", then you're probably just used to it

hehe the oil pressure reads 50+ psi when activating VTEC. I just did a fresh rebuild of my engine.
Maybe I should just replace the oil pressure switch or maybe its a lose connection. Ill check today when I change the oil.
Thanks,
Jon

bump, im always getting the oil pressure light coming on when first starting the car. This isn't normal. What could be the problem?
The oil pressure light is supposed to come on when you start, then go off when the pressure builds more than 4.5 lbs, which only takes a second or two.
My oil pressure light was coming on and staying on. Needless to say, I was scared shitless. I pulled the oil cap at idle and saw plenty of oil in the head, so I figured I would install a mech. oil pressure gauge to get accurate oil pressure readings. My pressure was 28 lbs at 750 rpm idle, and over 70-75 lbs at 3K rpms.
And that is on a 92 RS with over 275K miles. Now thats a healthy oil pump.
My oil pressure light is on because my Integrated Control Unit is fried and is giving a false ground to the light. My ICU has failed ALL functions now.

Is the sender leaking? Because i've seen cars where the oil gets in the sender's electrical connector and creates high impedance therefore creating a fake reading. Might wanna check ur sender. My .02

Actually, on all my civics, the oil light does not come on AT ALL when the car is started. It is only supposed to come on with the key in ignitionII and instances of low oil psi
