Default Transmission whining and metal-to-metal sounds?

Alright I've searched and all the results pretty much danced around what ive been feeling with my transmission. I have an EJ1 with a 5 speed d16z6.

Heres the problem(s): When my car is idling (clutch out, in neutral) it will make a grindy, whirring sound. When i push in the clutch, the sound stops.

When im slowing down, and downshift into 1st gear, the transmission whines loudly.

Also when i push it a bit (not launching), in first gear it will sound rather normal until about 3-3.5krpm; it then makes a haggard *** grinding noise (almost sounds like a loose bolt rattling very fast, but im almost sure its in the transmission) which happens 70% of the time. The other times it will sound smooth and deep like it should.

Other people's symtoms and remedies are close but not as specific. Any thoughts? TIA.

sounds like a couple seperate problems

1) throwout bearing (80%) or pilot bearing (20%)

2) dont downshift into first while moving.

3) could be a few different things, id consider a trans flush as step 1.

if it was the throwout bearing it should be making hte sound non stop even if the clutch is out

honestly its only noticable at idle alot of the time. once you add engine and road noises its very very hard to hear.

There is a reason for this. HONDAS DO NOT LIKE IT WHEN YOU DOWNSHIFT INTO FIRST WHILE MOVING! The tranny's just don't do well with 1st gear down shifts. Most tranny's don't though. Ever noticed how first gear is very short? Most of the time first gear is geared to short and when downshifting you will make the tranny "over rev stressing it and causing damage. It's just to low of a gear to drop into when moving.
