Default My motor finally blew...I think =(

Before anything, yesterday before I blew the motor, I was on the highway and was boosting some. and the engine STALLS out while boosting? Well, I pulled over the car and crank it back up. It cranks up fine. then this morning, I started it up and it started up fine and there was no smoke or anything coming from the exhaust. But as I backed out from my driveway, the car stalled out. I crank it back up, and it took a WHILE. It was having trouble starting...

my car was running really crappy but it wasn't smoking or anything. And it would just stall out sometimes at idle. On my way to school, A Mustang GT with a big hood scoop popped out of nowhere, and I decided to just toast this guy. I was boosting at 11-13 PSI and i flew on this sucker. At the red light, he made a left turn and left. And when the light turned green, I drove and heard a "pop", sounded like a backfire and I heard some smell. I looked back and I see all this purple looking smoke.

I limp the car back home and it feels sorta weak. It barely boosts up and at every stop light, when i brake and the car is in idle, the engine just STALLS out. And the red battery light pops up. And not just that, the car is hard to start up.

Then, on the 5th time that it stalled out while limping home, I started it back up and the check engine light pops up an blinks. And it stays there. I bring it home... and there is smoke coming out from the valve cover breather. I pull off the oil cap an all this smoke billows out.

I have a funny feeling that I fried my piston rings. Well...i'm pulling off the head this Saturday to see whats up. And if it is fried, i'm gonna drop in a built 2.0 CRV motor.

Or could it be a blown turbo? If its a blown turbo then I'm good to go. If not...then...my car is gonna be sitting in my garage for a while and i'll be broke for a longggg time.

That.... doesn't... sound.... too .... good.... man.

Does it smoke all the time while driving now? If the smoke is ONLY coming out the oilcap...that's weird... COuld be rings... MAYBE you burned a piston, too. That'd SUCK bigtime...

Expect the worst, and it can only gt better, is my opinion.

Here's what happened to me.

Timing belt...It's been on the car for 100k miles. I should've replaced it, I'm gonna check Saturday to see whats up. I'm gonna pull the head and take some pics to post up.

Also, what do you mean by the timing belt skipped? What does that do?

And yes...it does smoke ALL the time. And LOT's a smoke when I take off from 1st. People think I'm doing a burn out or something.

Well, if the ring lands, piston rings are fried, or messed up pistons, either way, I'm gonna ditch this motor and get a 2.0 CRV.

Timing belt is a long shot, imo. I've had my timing belt off a few teeth on a few occasions, and none of these listed conditions should happen from that.

Poor, poor ring lands... Got a compression gauge?

Yeah i'm gonna check the compression of each piston when I have time.

Those are the symptoms ive seen with the timing being off, but with all the smoke hes talking about yall are right, prolly not timing.

Sounds like when I burnt a nice hole in one of my valves. I drove on three cylinders. It would limp and smoke and stutter and stall. And it clunked because of no compression on #4 where the hole was. Any clunking?

Smoke coming out of the valve cover breather........sounds like blown ring lands.....have you pulled the plugs yet...that would of been the first thing i did......if theres wet oil on one or more of them then its prolly ring lands, or pistons, probably not anything dealing with the head unless its real serious...

What happens when your timing belt skips a few notches?

Does it make the car hard to start up? And does the car stall out when you idle?

Because even with some smoked piston rings, the car should still be able to idle right?

Yup, you just broke the ring lands, just like mine a month ago. Do the compression check.

It could be a broken or melted piston too, because my car was smoking out of the valve cover breather. Funny thing was all the rings were fine, but is was a cracked #3 piston.

My car was putting out smoke thru the blow by tube... I had four cracked pistons

It depends on what cam is skips on. Our preludes have the distributor on the exhaust cam, unlike civics and integras. If your exhaust cam is the one that jumped then you will have some wicked timing issues. The difference in degree rotation is directly relevant to your ignition timing. I've dealt with this twice and it really sucks. I've had to crank the dizzy to the firewall just to get some normal timing.

This would not effect the car starting in the way you mention. Running on 3 cylinders would.
