Default VTEC

I was searching around, but couldn't find a good enough answer...

If you took lets say... an ITR motor and dynoed it WITHOUT VTEC pulling to like 8500... THEN took the same motor and hooked up VTEC, how much more hp/tq would the car dyno?

Would the results be similar to a GSR or the new Type S motors?

No.

The peak power would probably be around 6500 or so (130 HP maybe?), and just start falling after that. It would look like an LS motor, or possibly a bit less torque.

I used to play with my VTEC settings when I was running a stand alone, and one time I set it at 10,000RPM and the car pretty much fell flat on its face from 6-9K RPM. You can actually test this out if you have a VTEC car and drive it hard before it warms up (though I dont suggest you doing this ). Youll notice VTEC does not engage and the car feels pathetic. The non VTEC lobes are optimized for low end power and I wouldnt be surprised if it made less power than a LS.

Thanks fellas

Although I meant peak numbers in general. How much more power would VTEC add to a GSR or ITR motor as to a NON-VTEC GSR or ITR motor.

This is a silly question. God gave us VTEC for a reason.

hahahahaha... yes you're right. But just wondering how much peak power gain there is from non-vtec to VTEC. haha

im not 100% but id say an ls motor would be more powerful than an aRRRR w/ no vtec, they were jus made and tuned for v-attack yO!!!

find a dyno chart on an b18c5, look on the graph and see what kind of power it makes at 5600rpm's. It will probably make the same power at 8400 without vtec. I would say maybe an 80 Hp difference.

plus revving a c5 motor to 8400 w/ no vtec is very bad for the motor

OT: And that is why there is LS-Vattack!

I don't mean comparing the two... I mean just from an ITR without vtec to a ITR with vtec... how much difference will the peak horsepower have?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
*poof*
My head just exploded.

I already answered your question, but I'm going to do it again.

WTF, how hard is it to subtract 195 HP from 130 to see that the difference might be about 65 HP?!?!!??!?!??!?!?!!?! Were you home schooled by gummi bears?

It makes EXACTLY 52 WHP difference on an ITR. At the flywheel, that's about 61 HORSEPOWER difference (15% drivetrain loss).

Here's a ******* stock type R, with one run VATTACK disabled.

165 HP Wheels with VTEC (194 flywheel)
113 HP Wheels without (133 HP)

I hope that answered your question.

This dyno plot was originally from ITR 01-0907

Are the differences the same with the GSR and B16 motors?

If you interpolate a little from the B18C5 dyno, and what a stock B18C1 would put down, it's very likely a third less HP when VTEC is disabled on each DOHC VTEC B series motor.

With restraint,
Chris
