Default oil level question

do u guys know why my lude always seems to show like there's no oil in the engine? About 3 weeks after i bought the car (brand new) i checked the oil and the dipstick was almost dry. i put in a liter and it got a little better. honda said they topped off everything right before i picked up the car. I've gone through my first oil change and the dipstick is dry again. Do any of you have this problem? any ideas why? do i not have enough oil in my car?
btw for my 2nd oil change i'm thinking of putting in synthetic. is that a good idea? what oil should i put in?

thanx

Try checking it after letting it sit overnight. It takes a long time for all the oil to collect at the pan.

Oh and on a level surface. This should be obvious but ya never know.

I don't think it should make a difference if it's warm or cold. I have checked mine after driving and when it's cold and its always around the full mark when I'm due for a change. Sounds like either you're not putting in enough oil, you're leaking oil, or your engine is burning the **** out of it, but I seriously doubt the last option, and you'd know if you were leaking it, you can smell and see it. I don't know about anyone else, but 5-6 quarts usually fills mine. If you're cars engine is fairly new and you want to go to synthetic, I don't see a problem with that as long as you use synthetic blend first. I personally use Castrol Syntec oil, works fine.
