96+ Civic bumper/middle support/ weights FINALLY documented
For the longest time I have alwasy wondered whatt his stuff weighs, and could never ge ta straight answer. Ive heard clamin of as much as 35 LBS for the rear bumper support
Well last night I took off my front bumper support, rear bumper support and the middle support under the rear seat (3 part piece). Also took off the rear Suspension Techniques sway bar.
The weight breaks down like this (weighed on certified FedEx digital scale):
Front bumper support: 13.65 LBS
Middle support: 21.65 LBS
Rear bumper support: 12.75 LBS
Bolts from all 3 pieces: 1.55 LBS
Total: 49.60 LBS
The Suspension Techniques sway bar weighed 9.10 LBS including all bushing and hardware, pretty damn light. I might put it back.
In total I saved 58.70 LBS...no too bad, every little bit helps.
Im going to look for a replacment for the 29 LB stock battery next

Under the rear seat...there are three pieces that bolt to the car (frame). If you take out the part your *** sits in you can see it...there are like 15 bolts holding the three pieces down. It does the width of the car.
Bad safety wise..or ba as in difficult?
Safety wise, I guess it would suck it you get T-boned...thats basically why the bar is there. It also probably adds some structual stiffiness - but who needs that in drag racing
Difficult wise..its easy. The only "hard" part is pulling on the rear plastic panels to get to the 3 bolts (on each side). It took like 10-15 minutes to remove though.
I have some racing to do thos week an next week..which is why I removed all the stuff, I might put it back...Ill see.

keep the middle support at least.......the bar is there to protect the car in the event of a side impact. you will surely get seriously hurt or killed without this piece.
And no im not being "mr safety". i also have the bumper supports out. but would not consider ever taking out the middle support.

Best of luck--this should be one hell of a grudge match. However PLEASE put the supports back on your car ASAP. It's a bad idea to drive on the streets without them--period. Too many soccer moms in SUVs ready to barrel into you
