Default vtec died... HELP

92 accord w/ jdm h22... hit about 7000 RPM and the my motor sounded like it went for a sh*t... i am waiting to get a new tps... i know that is gone... however it tripped my check engine light (code 7) about a month ago... and everything has been fine for that time... anyways no smoke... no loss of oil... no loss of coolant... my exhaust is also ignorantely loud... and backfires... now it seems to be much quieter... and you can hear my intake and motor over the exhaust... and the motor sound normal... when the vtec engages... it is a loud raspy sound and my accord doesn't take off... it just keeps accelerating as though there it no vtec... bent valve?? timing off?? vtec solenoid gone??

ANYBODY WITH ANY IDEA'S please let me know...

thx

rich

You may have jumped some teeth on the timing belt. Your post is a bit confusing, though, so I can't say for sure.

Nice!!! Your TPS is bad and you still decide to run your car hard.

Yeah, I was in a hurry earlier. You can't think that running your car with one of the main sensors bad and expect it to run anywhere near normal.

Get the TPS fixed and come back if it's still acting rough.

check the vtec solenoid and pressure switch. Make sure these are connected right since they control the vtec engagement. Get a chiltons or some sort of manual to help if you don't have one already.

arg, why bother making this post when you answered your own question. vtec is TPS dependent, if you TPS has been fucked for over a month , then you haven't been hitting vtec

the vtec is not tps dependant... vtec has pulled for a month now... i realise that it shouldn't have been ran hard... i got 2 so far off ebay with ~300 ohms closed and ~3K5 100% open... should be 1K - 5K or .5V o/p - 4.5v o/p anyways dealership wants $800 for a new throttlebody... TPS is not sold seperately...

any idea's where to get a NEW TPS from??

the cheapest place i found it was at walmart (super-tech brand, cuz its kinda like honda-tech) get about 1 or 2 liters (depending on how hard you want 3rd g3ar vT3c t0 k1ck 1n!) but you pour it in on top of your spark plugs

wether vtec engauges or not is throttle dependent, the secondaries are no throttle position dependent. unless you have an after market vtec control of some sort then throttle position is a nessasary requirement for vtec to engauge

no the stock honda ecu runs very rich, perhaps the problem isn't the TPS itself but the wiring? have you looked into poissibly bad wiring. changing the TPS is a bitch , but a nessasary requirement for VTEC. Your car is fine, when ever there is a problem the honda ecu always over compensates so that it will be super safe .. you lose economy and performance but you have safety..

It doesn't even seem like we try to help people anymore... I thought Honda-Tech was supposed to be a place to spread knowledge and nobody even cares anymore... I guess most people would rather make fun of someone for their lack of knowledge then to try and enlighten them...

change your tps, but you may want to check timing too. if your motor did anything drastic at 7k, it would have been really easy to skip a tooth.

i prettty well expected the TPS however it has ran fine for a month... anyways thanks everyone for you help... i will try to find one and throw it in... see if that solves my problem...

as far as the bad wiring... the car has ran fine for over 2 years with the h22... all joints are soldered... so i would assume it is nothing electrical...

thanks again guys...
