Default HELP!! Can't get crank bolt off.

I bought the Moroso crank pulley wrench. It works great for holding the pulley in place. But I've broken too many tools trying to back out the bolt that holds it to the crank. That bitch is snug. Anyone else taken off their crank pully before?

all of the toruqe is being lost in the extensions. Use a deep 17 or 19- depending on engine, and a breaker bar. Lay on your back and use your leg...works everytime for me at home

My deep well 17mm is just shy of getting a wrench on it. I'll try it again tomorrow. I need to go buy a good breaker bar.

If you use those extension you lose a lot if not all your torgue right there. Your gonna end up needing an 8ft cheater bar with two big guys jumping on it to break it lose like that. Well thats what I did

Btw: Thanks for getting the proper tool to get that thing off the right way. I cant begine to tell you how sick and tired I am of ppl breaking something else because they dont get that tool to hold the pully propperly.

what i do is heat it up with a torch for about 5-10 minutes until the bolt gets almost red.

Is this bolt reverse threaded? Impact wrench?

3/4 in impact will pop it off quickly. 3/8-1/2 wont have enouhg torque. most decent shops will break it loose for you for around $10, then hand tighten it so you can drive home.

3/4 Impact or the special tool made to hold the pulley while you break the bolt loose, have also heard of people holding the pulley with a belt wrench.

you have to jam the flywheel in order to get it taken off

Jam the flywheel? I have a crankshaft pully wrench. It came off with ease when I used a 1/2 inch breaker. I put it all back together. It runs awesome!!

Thanks for all the help guys. Definately appreciated!!

I had that same problem about a month ago.
I tried 300fpt impact wrench and even a 600fpt impact wrench with no results.
Eventually what I did was this:

1.Spray the crank bolt with bolt removal lube.
2.Remove the starter
3.Stick a flathead screw driver in the flywheel teeth and have some one hold it there.
4.Get a breaker bar with an extended handle and turn it counterclockwise.

my 1/2 impact gun takes off all the crank pulleys i need it too, i have had one or two back when i was working here in my little shop that were real stubburn and i had a hard time getting off, i locked the flywheel with the snap on tool, and it came off with my breaker bar and a jackhandle for leverage
