Default Bar ends..

At the end of the handel bars, there are a bar end or a weight.

Does that serve a purpose besided protectiong the handelbars, affect the stearing or anything?

Im pretty sure they are there to help break the fall, should you drop it while standing still(like at a gas station or in your driveway/garage).

They also help take strain off of you hands/wrists and arms buy reducing vibration. They "stabilize" the front bars at high speed.

Correct, they act as a passive steering damper, in a way.

By placing the weight at the end of the bar, which is a rotational moment arm, they increase the moment of inertia of the bars, making it more difficult for small inputs, such as vibrations, to deflect the bar.

For a basic explanation of moment of inertia, picture 2 people, one with their legs together, and one spread wide. Which one is easier to push over, sideways? The one with their legs wide has a higher MOI, at their feet.

A lot of honda's are just screwed/twisted in. It prolly just fell off or was stolen. I know theyre like that on f3's, not sure on 929's.

They are there to stop the bars resonating, nothing else. Take them out and you'll get numb digits, passive steering dampers LMFAO, get a grip please.

Except, I'm right. My use of the word "damper" is incorrect, which is obvious, but it was the best way to describe how the wieghts work.

Perhaps "passive vibrations dampers" would have been a better choice, still incorrectly using "dampers", of course.

Oh I see passive steering anti vibration dampers. They are bar end weights and stop vibration, sweet sod all to do with steering effect in the real world.

Im missing mine too... one is striped so I took them off. If I understand correctly they do help with vibration, so I should get them fixed?

They are inserts in the bar. They can be removed/replaced. On the 929 they have rubber grommets and a piece of lead or something with threads on the end. The guy I bought my 929 from had a set of ducati bar end mirrors on it so I had to replace all the insides for the bar ends. Caused my bars to vibrate like crazy and my hands would go numb after long trips.

They were used when most bikes in the 90's had tubular clip-ons. Alot of newer stuff and most aftermarket kit is solid. If your bars are solid then I would only replace tham as they are usefull to stop damage, they wont have any noticeable effect on much. If your bars are hollow get some back in.
