Bad wheel bearing?
ok I'm building a CRX just put in a new motor. now when I crank down the Axle nuts to the Recommended torque the tires do not spin I hear this is also a sign for bad barrings. did a bit of searching but didn't find 2 much help. can anyone tell me if this is just bad barrings or could it be something else? thanks
What engine do you have in there.
I had the same issue, but my problem was the axle was getting pulled into the hub so much, its very very commin when doing a swap but a lot of people just let it go.
I made up some axle spacers that work great and solved the problem.
You might want to try taking out the dust rings also. Of course if everything is stock, I would look into maybe getting the wrong axles.
I have never heard of a bad wheel bearing causing that.

It has a B18a in it right now '91 with the '91 Axles
Yea a friend of mine was saying that when you crank down the axle nut if the tire does not spin its bad barings but he could be wrong, anyone else hear of this??? as far as the dust ring goes I dont think I removed it so tomorow I'll remove that and see if I can get the tires to spin, thanks for the response.

Pull the dust covers and I'll bet that everything is just fine.
A quick way to check the wheel bearings is to jack the car up and try to wiggle the top and bottom of the wheel toward and away from you, there should be no play.

But if you have a bad ball joint then your gonna have play anyways. If you have a bad wheel bearing, you will hear a sound, like a howling sound.

True, but if that is the case you should be able to pin point where the slop is at.

I had a bad wheel bearing. I also had play in my wheel, but it kindo f went away by over torquing the axle nut. What, really let me know I had a bad wheel bearing was when I tried to stop when racing and the brakes would not lock up, and I continued to wear out my right brake pads because the left side was the one with the bad wheel bearing and not doing their part.

Explain to me how a wheel bearing causes this ? How does a wheel bearing stop the brakes from locking up on one side ?

unless you were making a point and i didn't catch it....i thought it was b/c the wheel bearing in the hub is what makes the whole rim/tires spin. It rolls around in the hub on a thin ribbon of grease/the bearing itself is spinning. When the bearing goes bad the tire will wobble, and braking and steering will be decreased IMMEDIATELY.....The car will walk like a bent LCA, or like you have a loose nut on a tie rod. If you have to have the hub replaced or fixed....you will have to buy a new bearing b/c once the machine pushes the bearing out it rips em up......Good luck...

I didn't take mine to a shop to have new bearing pressed in. I just bought a hub from a salvage yard for 30 bucks.

But usually when a wheel bearing goes bad, you run the risk of it seizing up, not, not stopping. Its usually the other way around. Thats where I'm lost. Thats why when wheel bearings go bad, they will start to make like a howling noise, and sooner or later lock up and you could loose a whole wheel.
pulled dust rings off, but determined my drives side wheel bearing is going bad feels really rough when you spin it by hand so I went ahead and pulled both assemblies out figured I'd just go ahead and replace them anyway. couldn't tell you the last time they were done I don't know the cars history prier to my owning it.
when im at a complete stop and give it some gas.my wheels wobble and when im on the road.the steering wheel wobbles..does it mean i need to replace my bearings?
well that was fun, pulled the axles put pulled the brake calipers off and removed the disks span the barrings one felt fine but the other was really rough so I went ahead and replaced them while they were off. but the dust ring was also a problem so I removed that as well and all is good now. thanks for the help everyone.
