Default Car overheating

For some reason when I'm in traffic or even at a drive thru my car's temperature goes towards the 75% mark. But when I'm actually driving...even for a minute, it goes down to less than 25% mark. I have a intake, which i think makes the difference. How much coolant should I have?

check your thermostat or on the housing cover of the thermostat theres a ECT switch that tells the fan to come on...

follow ur lower radiator hose to it! that should take you to this thermostat housing that the hose is clamped onto.. its bolted on by two 10mm and the switch will be rite on the housing.

As much as will fit. heheh. The reservoir will siphon it in, so if it's empty you need to add. It's marked on the reservoir where to fill to. When cool, open the rad cap, you should see coolant, or if not give the upper rad hose a little squeeze and you should see it. Fill accordingly. Sounds like a fan prob though, if it's only under low or no speeds. It's an easy fix.

Yeah could be not opening enuf, but still doesn't accound for temp drop after moving. The fan(s) should maintain.

it might be the thermostat but check your coolant levels, if the resevoir looks almost empty thats atleast part if not the whole problem. top it off and see how it runs.

well, if it's stuck at a certain point, when you start to drive and move air, it will drop, sometimes even too much.....exact thing happened to me this winter
