burning oil i think
hey guys i have a 98 GS-R installed in my car mods are just intake chipped computer fuel pressure regulator set at 39lb i believe and hollowed cat plus 2 1/4 exhaust i'm having a problem where ppl behind me said they can smell fuel and it looks like i'm burning oil kinda blue blackish. I can notice smoke coming from the tail pipe when i go down a long hill in gear at about 2500 and come to a stop i notice the smoke comes out but when i drive off it's gone and sometimes it smokes when i hit v-tec can anyone help me please oh ya i go through about 1/2 to 3/4 bottle of oil between oil changes running synthetic
how many kilometers on the engine?
sounds like it could be valve seals from the discription you gave.
also it will smell and smoke a little more than normal with a punched out converter.

i hate gutted cats. everytime i opened my windows, i smelled gas. i put the stock cat back on now. i burn a lot more oil than you do in 3000 miles. i start off with extra oil usually and during the 3000 miles i have to put atleast 1 bottle. its 1.5 bottles at most.
ya i think i'm gonna install a high flow cat for it and figure out my oil burning problem how much should it cost to get the valve seals replace or is it a do it your selfer job
Yeah, my Teg's CAT is also hollow. I get the black smoke as well. Smells like fuel. Dipstick also smells like fuel when it's removed. I, too, am going through oil like nothing else. More often than not, the dipstick reads bone dry. *frustrated* Last time I fully emptied the oil pan, it yielded 2 QUARTS from what started out as 4.2 quarts!!
A friend was also thinking it could be valve seals, o-rings... yeah.
Are you also getting exhaust residue on the back end of your car? And, does your car feel like it bogs down when there's too little fuel/oil?
Please reply with any ideas people!

Don't know - maybe someone else will give some good pointers.
I won't know what specifically needs to be done to my car until the engine is broken down for diagnostics.

ya man sounds like you need a rebuild soon my gs-r ain't that bad yet maybe i can save it before it reaches that point i'm leaning towards valve seals or maybe could it be blow by anyway to find out if it is blow by?

Im having the same problem. My gsr needs 1/2 quart every time i fill up the gas tank (every 250 miles). Some people say that if theres a puff of light blue smokes coming out of ur exhaust during hard down shifting than its probably the vavle guide seal. If the smoke comes out during hard acceleration then its probably the piston rings. As for my car, it does both so i think its about time for a rebuild for me

Yeah, my friend (also a Teg owner) has been suggesting seals, piston rings, and unfortunately, the rebuild. At least it'll be better than factory once it's finished.
Crap, my car does at least one weird thing a week. I'm either looking up codes, checking fuel injector connectivity, or something. I think my car is testing me.
Heh heh.
